Giken Super Crush Pilers popular with Highways England
Ivor King Piling have just completed a contract on the A500 in Staffordshire for Osborne on behalf of Highways England.
600 number U profile sheet piles were installed as two retaining walls, immediately alongside a live carriageway on the A500 near Stoke on Trent. The walls were in close proximity to houses and so noise and vibration were a major consideration, along with minimising disruption so that the busy road could be kept open.
Two of IK's Giken ECO700S super crush pilers supplied and serviced by UK dealer AGD Equipment were deployed on the project. The super crush was necessary in order to deal with the mudstone soil conditions which a standard solo press would not have been able to handle.
Two of our Sennebogen 683R 80 tons telescopic crawler cranes were supplied by us as service cranes on hire to the project, handling the super crush equipment and pitching the sheet piles.
The project was a huge success and completed ahead of schedule. Highways England are so impressed they are looking at rolling out the use of Giken super crush systems across all of their smart motorway and dual carriageway widening schemes.
